The short version
- As technology becomes infrastructure, reliability and accountability deserve closer attention.
- This is illustrative editorial content for the Margin demo edition.

## The shift beneath the surface

The most important changes rarely arrive looking like infrastructure. They arrive as conveniences: a faster way to write, a simpler way to search, a new way to make something. Only later do we recognize that the foundation has moved.

A useful perspective begins with context. What looks inevitable from a distance often turns out to be the result of a series of decisions, each made with incomplete information and a particular set of priorities.

> “Understanding starts when we make room for a better question.”

## What becomes scarce?

When one kind of work becomes easier, the work around it can become more important. Judgment, context and responsibility remain part of the picture. The point is to make these relationships visible, so readers can evaluate the argument for themselves.

## Design for the dependency

The useful starting point is a specific task, a clear boundary and a person who remains responsible for the outcome. Good systems earn their place through repeated, ordinary usefulness.

This is an invitation to keep following the thread. Read another perspective, question the assumptions and return when there is something new to learn.
